Abstract
The last decade has noticed the rapidly
growing use of medium-voltage (MV) low-power instrument transformers (LPITs)
which are based on low-power principles such as Rogowski coil and resistive or capacitive
voltage dividers. These advanced technologies are being utilized also in
applications such as energy and power quality metering where frequency response
with accurate measurement of low and high harmonics is a key factor for proper
operation. This paper deals with accuracy requirements for harmonics and low
frequencies as stated in IEC standards for LPITs introduced by the new IEC 61869
standards family. This paper describes practical LPIT aspects which influence
frequency response, summarizes available testing methods and presents results
of tests performed on a wide range of LPITs. It focuses only on LPITs which do
not involve digital data processing/transmission.
