Abstract

This paper studies the impact of distributed energy resources on harmonic level in power systems. A model of the voltage source converter and the inner current loop is included in the modified IEEE 34 node test system to assess the impact of a variable number of wind turbines on system impedance and on voltage harmonic components. The advantage of the proposed approach is that it allows performing the harmonic assessment while not requiring a detailed knowledge of the control system. Therefore, it can be easily implemented by distribution system operators to perform harmonic studies for feeders with significant penetration of distributed energy resources.
