Abstract

Many Norwegian electric vehicle owners have had charging problems. Examination of reported issues and case studies has shown that a significant amount of problems is caused to ground faults in the Norwegian IT-networks. This is possibly due to implementation of the ground monitor interrupter (GMI), which falsely identifies some ground faults as dangerous network conditions. Changing the network phase to earth impedance is shown to affect the function of the GMI, explaining why some problems disappear when a power quality analyser is plugged in to troubleshoot the problems.
