Abstract
In this paper we present a novel decentralized AutomaticMeter Reading (AMR) system over a LoRaWAN networkusing blockchain technology and the underlying conceptof smart contracts. The rationale behind the proposedAMR system is twofold: first of all, to provide anadditional open, trusted, decentralized and tamper-prooflayer for handling smart meter data, but at the same timeoffer the end-customers the ability of controlling theusage of their own meter data; i.e. providing the endcustomerswith ownership over their metering data. Thelatter is achieved by employing the concept of smartcontracts.
