Abstract
To unlock the true potential of the digital technologies in the distribution grid, novel solutions must be coupled with new business models. However, creating and validating new business models in the early phase of the innovation process and during the relatively short period of a typical Research & Innovation project is a challenge. This paper presents a 5-step methodology to create and validate new business models using the business model canvas (BMC) and a stakeholder innovation group (SIG) in an innovative way. The following steps are introduced: 1) stakeholder analysis, 2) stakeholder innovation group creation, 3) master business model canvas creation, 4) BMC adaption and 5) business models validation. The methodology is currently being tested and further developed in the RESOLVD project.
