Abstract
Weak short-circuit current capability of a distribution network can cause multiple adverse effects on voltage quality and electrical safety at a customer connection point. “Balancer” is a novel and cost-effective solution to solve/avoid these problems in weak distribution networks. This paper presents the results of a series of laboratory test conducted on a prototype device and simulated benefits on various network configurations. The conclusion of the paper is that there are significant benefits gained in voltage quality in certain conditions.
