Abstract

This paper analyzes the performance of hybrid powergeneration combining renewable sources with batteryenergy storage systems in the context of grid codes thatrequire a preannouncement of the generated power. Theproduced energy is remunerated with a fixed price; inthe case that there are deviations from the announcedschedule, penalties have to be paid. This leads to ascheduling optimization problem that makes a trade-offbetween these two risks based on statistics of therenewable power forecast accuracy. The maincontribution of the paper is the analysis of the revenueperformance ratio and its dependency on the accuracyof the forecast. The results show that there isoptimization potential for maximizing the revenue byintelligently designing the energy commitment and thecontrol. Further on, even for large errors of theforecast, the losses and the penalties are limited, so thefinancial risks with respect to the generation forecastare low.
