Abstract
This paper presents the results of a modeling study that assesses the potential of using distributed energy resource management systems (DERMS) to control the reactive power of distributed energy resources (DER) to improve hosting capacity. The baseline for comparison is fixed power factor control. This paper considers the ability of DERMS to apply locational and time-varying reactive power settings, and quantifies the resulting distribution hosting capacity benefits.
