Abstract

The grid traffic light concept is an approach for the coordination of flexible units in distribution grids. The implementation and testing of this concept is addressed in the project grid-control. In this paper, a quota model and appropriate system solutions are developed and introduced for the yellow and red traffic light phase. Quotas supply information concerning forecasted congestion to the market participants so that time shifting and peak shaving methods can be used to alter flexibility schedules to use available grid capacity efficiently. The concept and the system solutions are tested and evaluated in a field test in a low voltage grid section. The results show that congestion can be avoided proactive by the quota model, so that a higher share of renewable power generation and a higher share of flexible consumption units can be integrated into the grid.
