dc.description.abstractThe Thermal Network Method (TNM) is a proven method for calculating the temperature rises of devices and systems in medium and low voltage technology. This paper describes in more detail how TNM is adapted to the specific requirements of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies (LV-Assembly). The dominant heat sources within LV-Assembly are analysed and the results are implemented into TNM. The Thermal Networks of several components are set up from basic network elements, verified by experimental investigations and summarised as modularised components in a Thermal Network library. It is described how the Thermal Network of a low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assembly can be set up from the modularised Thermal Networks of several components. The temperature rise of the LV-Assembly is computed and compared to measured temperatures of the test model of a low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assembly.
