    Abstract
This paper shows the results of comprehensive investigations in the field of low voltage grid state estimation. Two central topics are discussed: First the comparison of different state estimation methods like the conventional method or linearized methods and second the consideration of privacy issues. The results show that the conventional state estimation is the best option if the process cycle of a supervision system is long enough. Furthermore, the analyses of the results show no violation of privacy, if only the voltages are recorded by the smart meters. At the same time, the estimation results are accurate enough for real grid application. These results provide an important contribution to the current discussion in Germany which data from smart meters may be allowed to be recorded in the future.
