Abstract
This paper shows a real-life application of artificial intelligence for the planning of green-field microgrids and finds that an estimated 30% cost reduction is possible compared to the human grid design. The artificial intelligence is able to design both generation and transport/transmission for relatively large area’s and number of users, but is not yet mathematically optimal.
